Interschool Athletics Carnival 1/4/22
Re – 2022 Interschool Athletics Carnival at Lucindale Area School – 1/4/22
The principals of the four participating schools – Allendale East Area School, Kingston Community School, Kangaroo Inn Area School and Lucindale Area School met today to discuss the current COVID situation and the implications for the Interschool Athletics Carnival this Friday.
We have made the difficult decision to postpone the Interschool Sports Day at Lucindale Area School until 2023. This decision was not made lightly and was due to the following reasons –
- Reduced duty of care to all students. This is due to the inability of the participating schools to cover all events with current staffing shortages as staff across the four schools are impacted by COVID
- Increasing student absences associated with COVID
- The logistics of enforcing COVID safe measures including social distancing and mask wearing when large groups of people congregate
- On the 25/3/22 we received advice from the Department for Education – Chief Executive, Rick Persse related to schools reducing contact and participation in non-essential activities unrelated to teaching and learning for Weeks 9-11.
We anticipate that going ahead with this event could have negative consequences for student learning and attendance in the last two weeks of the term and for families going into the Easter period.
The Education Directors of the South East Coast and Vines, Blue Lake and Tatiara-Wrattonbully also endorse and support this decision.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Kind regards
Adrian Maywald
